Wagner seeks improvement in NEC
(STATS) - Wagner coach Jason Houghtaling hopes a competitive nonconference schedule will prepare his team for the Northeast Conference race.
"Our singular goal each year is to win the NEC championship and compete in the FCS playoffs," he said. "Our conference improves each year, and I think this year's nonconference schedule is a demanding one, with an interesting mix of teams that will definitely prepare us for league play."
After opening at home against Division II Bowie State on Aug. 30, the Seahawks have four other non-conference games on the road against Syracuse (Sept. 8), Montana State (Sept. 15), Monmouth (Sept. 29) and Campbell (Oct. 6).
Half of Wagner's six NEC games are at home: Sacred Heart (Sept. 22), Saint Francis (Oct. 13) and Duquesne (Nov. 3). The Seahawks will travel to defending champ Central Connecticut State (Oct. 27), Bryant (Nov. 10) and Robert Morris (Nov. 17).
Wagner finished 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the NEC last season.
