VIDEO: Elliott 'thrilled' to be playing No. 1 Clemson

In a perfect world, South Carolina (3-8) would like a manageable opponent in its final game of the season -- in order to procure its fourth victory of the season.

Hosting No. 1 Clemson -- also a fierce rival -- may not seem ideal. However, interim head coach Shawn Elliott isn't worried about the opponent. In fact, he's welcoming the challenge of having the highly-ranked Tigers come to Columbia.

"Clemson Tigers, number one team in the country," said Elliott. "I think we are thrilled about that, having the best team in the country coming into Williams-Brice Stadium."

With postseason play not being a possibility this year, the Gamecocks certainly could play the role of a spoiler in this contest. While a victory against Clemson wouldn't completely make up for the rather poor year its had in 2015, South Carolina could use that potential momentum going forward as it transitions into a new era.

"There was a more of a focused look and energy in what we have to do to prepare this week for the number one team in the nation, Clemson," said Elliott. "The mentality seems to be right on point."
