Eric Soza threw for 237 yards and ran for 102 more, accounting for three touchdowns, and Texas-San Antonio won in its football debut on Saturday, defeating Northeastern State 31-3.

Larry Coker, who coached Miami to the 2001 national championship, walked off the field a winner again with the Roadrunners before 56,743 at the Alamodome.

The Roadrunners scored on their first three possessions in building a 21-0 lead before the first quarter was over. Sosa ran 14 yards for UTSA's first touchdown, then connected with Jake Wanamaker for a 6-yard touchdown and Kam Jones for a 3-yard score.

Sean Ianno kicked a field goal as time expired in the half as UTSA led 24-0. Soza completed 17 of 29 passes, was not intercepted and was sacked once.

Northeastern State, a Division II independent, managed a 22-yard field goal by Dylan Beers in the third quarter.
