Utah starting QB Travis Wilson cleared to return after head injury

Utah quarterback Travis Wilson got great news Tuesday, as he was medically cleared to play football in 2014.

The school announced that a CT scan on June 20 was the final test for Wilson to pass.

Wilson suffered a concussion against Arizona State on Nov. 9 of last season, and tests revealed a previous injury to an intracranial artery. Wilson missed the rest of the season.

The recent CT scan revealed the artery has remained stable, so doctors gave Wilson the go-ahead to participate without limitations going forward after participating in non-contract drills during the spring.

"I'm happy I've been cleared to play again," Wilson said in Utah's release. "My condition is stable and the neurosurgeon predicted it will remain stable in the future. I had a feeling nothing would change from the previous scan, so I've been working to get back into shape.

"I feel totally comfortable about returning to football and full contact. I believe I've been playing with this condition for a while and never even knew about it. I'm going to keep playing just the way I've always played. I knew something positive would come out of the whole thing."

Said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham: "Obviously, it's great news that Travis has been medically cleared to play football again. Travis' health was our number one concern and we're relieved for him and his family that he is OK."

Wilson will enter the fall as Utah's starting quarterback.
