UNC Football: Tar Heels drop out of AP Top 25
UNC drops out of the latest AP Top 25 poll after a brutal loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies
The North Carolina Tar Heels stay in the Associated Press Top 25 didn’t last long.
Just a week after they were ranked following a big win over Florida State on the road, the Tar Heels have dropped out of the polls.
That’s thanks in large part to the bad performance on Saturday against Virginia Tech, losing 34-3 in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels are holding onto their ACC Coastal Division lives as the Hokies now have the edge in getting to the conference title game. UNC can help its own cause on Saturday, but will still need some help.
After beating UNC, Virginia Tech jumped eight spots to No. 17 in the polls, just one spot behind Miami who is No. 16.
Along with the Hokies and Hurricanes, the ACC has a total of five teams ranked. Clemson is the highest ranked team in the conference at No. 3, followed by Louisville at No. 7 and then Florida State who jumped to No. 14 after beating Miami.
The AP Poll is usually a good measuring stick throughout the year, but has its gaffs from time-to-time. The big poll to worry about is the College Football Playoff Poll which releases on November 1.
That’s the poll to watch if UNC wants to get into a big bowl game. But they will have to win out and win big in those games.

The Tar Heels will take on Miami on Saturday in Coral Gables, as they look to get back on track and pickup another road win.
