UK sending DT Melvin Lewis to represent the defense at SEC Media Days

The defensive resurgence must be truly underway in Lexington, as the Kentucky Wildcats first representative named to attend SEC Media Days will not be a quarterback, receiver or running back, no it's defensive tackle Melvin Lewis.

The senior defensive tackle from Compton, California earned his undergraduate degree this spring and is poised to anchor the defensive front for a team eager to earn their first bowl bid under Mark Stoops.

Lewis will be not only attend the event but will be representing a new program known as "Beyond the Field: Stories of the SEC."

New SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey spoke about the new program via news release.

"The athletic achievements of the SEC continue to be well-documented, but many of our student-athletes lead interesting lives or have intriguing stories that happen away from the field of play," Sankey said. "This is an opportunity to tell stories of academic achievement, personal ambition, community service, determination in the face of adversity and character of mind. These student-athletes are the chapters of a larger book that is the story of the Southeastern Conference."
