UCLA's defense has conference-best marks in yards per pass attempt

UCLA's defense has been sharply criticized -- without stars like Myles Jack and Eddie Vanderdoes, teams like Stanford and Arizona State have beaten the Bruins.

Joey Kaufman notes via OC Register, however, that UCLA's defense is not as bad as you'd expect based on recent performance. According to Kaufman, UCLA's defense has allowed 5.5 yards per pass attempt -- ninth best in FBS. The mark is the best in the Pac-12. For comparison, Stanford ranks second with 6.4 yards per pass attempt.

Kaufman also adds that opposing quarterbacks have completed just 53% of their passes vs. UCLA, which is the best in the conference as well. These numbers should be of interest to Cal's QB Jared Goff, who faces UCLA Thursday night.
