UCLA lineman says run defense 'sucked' after key injuries
UCLA's run defense was expected to be superb this season with Myles Jack, Eddie Vanderdoes and Kenny Clark leading the way.
However, the Bruins run defense ranked No. 88 in the country and allowed 187.83 yards per game, though it ranked No. 70 in yards per attempt (4.29).
Bruins defensive end Takkarist McKinley was asked about UCLA's struggles against the run and said that injuries really cost the Bruins.
"Once Eddie (Vanderdoes) and Myles (Jack) went out, our run defense, it pretty much sucked," said McKinley, via Jack Wang of the Los Angeles Daily News. "Just keepin' it real."
Myles Jack played the first three games of the season, while Eddie Vanderdoes only played in the season opener. In the one game Jack and Vanderdoes played together, UCLA held Virginia to 98 rushing yards on 34 carries (2.88 yards per carry).
In other words, McKinley may have a point.
