UCLA Football: Arizona State QB Manny Wilkins Doubtful for Bruin Game

After injuring his foot against USC last Saturday, ASU quarterback Manny Wilkins is doubtful for the Sun Devils’ battle with the UCLA Football team.

After suffering their first loss of the season to USC, Arizona State lost more than the game. The Sun Devils were without starting QB Manny Wilkins after he injured his foot in the second quarter and is now “doubtful” to go against the UCLA Football team this Saturday in Tempe.

After the loss to USC, ASU Head Coach Todd Graham said Wilkins would not miss “extended time”. Unfortunately, the time that he will miss could cost the Sun Devils another loss.

Doug Haller of AZCentral.com had reported via Twitter on the redshirt sophomore QB, confirming progress to Wilkins’ injured foot, but not enough to confirm his start against the Bruins.

Wilkins is currently 5th in the Pac-12 in passing yards per game (246.6) and total passing yards (1,233). Unfortunately, he has only thrown five touchdowns and has four interceptions to go along with it. Behind Wilkins, Arizona State is 4th in the conference in scoring offense with 43.0 points per game.

Without Wilkins, ASU is going to have to look to back-up redshirt freshman QB Brady White to lead the charge against the Bruins and their run game. That is if Wilkins is for sure out against UCLA.

The Bruins have been improving defensively against the run and the pass, so if the Bruins were to go against a new QB, you can guarantee they will be licking their chops and trying to cover every part of the field. At the same time, UCLA CANNOT take ASU lightly.

More from Go Joe Bruin

Like last season, expect the Sun Devils to keep UCLA on their toes on both sides of the ball. It would also not be a surprise if ASU has a full-on knock-down, drag-out fight with the Bruins. Let us just hope, for the Bruins’ sake, they can capitalize on ASU’s loss.
