Tyrone Swoopes powers through defender for TD vs Oklahoma State
Texas Longhorns quarterback Tyrone Swoopes showed off his strength on Saturday with an impressive touchdown run against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
One of the most entertaining parts of the Texas Longhorns offense this season isn’t true freshman quarterback Shane Buechele. It’s his backup, 6’4”, 249-pound senior QB Tyrone Swoopes.
The 18 Wheeler package can be unstoppable when Swoopes gets going. He’s so big and fast that opposing defenses have a hard time bringing him down. On Saturday, the Oklahoma State Cowboys found that out the hard way.
In the second quarter of Saturday’s game, Swoopes came in and ran a sweep to the right. It looked like the 18 Wheeler would go down after getting hit a few yards downfield, but Swoopes lowered his shoulder, stayed upright and finished the play for a 12-yard touchdown.
The score helped the Longhorns take a 19-16 lead, although their kicker missed his second extra point of the game. You can check out the video of the impressive run from Swoopes in the video below.

Swoopes had only thrown eight passes this season heading into Saturday’s game compared to 23 rushing attempts. It’s pretty clear what the Longhorns plan to do when the senior quarterback is in the game, but defenses still haven’t found a way to stop it.
That touchdown was Swoopes’ second of the game and fifth this season. Judging from the degree of difficulty of this one, I’m guessing that this won’t be nearly his last touchdown before the season is over. Hopefully the Longhorns can keep capitalizing on his running ability.
