Tyler Lockett aims to one-up father once more in NFL Draft

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett has already eclipsed his father Kevin's records at Kansas State, and now he's hoping to surpass his father again, only this time it's out of his hands.

As Lockett prepares for the NFL Draft, there's one number that's on his mind: 47. This time, though, he's aiming for a lower number than his father.

Kevin Lockett was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft with the 47th overall pick after a sensational career at K-State.

"I want to go before 47," Tyler told the Wichita Eagle. "My agent told me a couple months ago I was somewhere around there, and I have done everything I can to prove people wrong since then. So I will be watching Thursday with the expectation that there is a chance I go in the first round. But if I don't, I will just wait until Friday. If I don't go before 47, it's not the end of the world, either. I have done everything I can."

A final mock draft from FOX Sports has Lockett going in the third round to the Minnesota Vikings with the 76th pick.

However, having done all that he can do for his draft stock, both with a terrific senior season at K-State and an impressive showing at the NFL Combine, Lockett plans on kicking back and relaxing with his loved ones at a viewing party planned by his father.

"I'm just going to have fun watching," he said. "If I go Thursday, perfect. We can celebrate. But I won't put too much pressure on myself. I don't care when my name gets called. I am just happy that my name is going to get called."
