Tommy Armstrong Not Making Heisman Watchlists ... Yet
Tommy Armstrong is off to the best start of his Nebraska football career
Despite that, despite numbers that are getting better and better as the season goes on, the quarterback isn’t really in the conversation for the Heisman yet. USA Today put out their weekly watchlist post this week and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are other players making too much noise for people to talk about the Husker QB.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Louisville’s Lamar Jackson is the front runner for the Heisman. Jackson’s numbers are insane when compared to the rest of the pack. Keep this in mind. In four games, the Louisville quarterback has had a hand in 25 touchdowns in four games.
That’s not a typo, he’s thrown 13 touchdowns and run for another 12. He’s also got 1,800 total yards. Of course, his star could dull if he struggles against Clemson. Even if he does struggle players like Stanford’s Christian McCaffery and San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey are considered as more legitimate contenders,

McCaffery has been good, if not eye-popping but the fact that he’s playing in an improved Pac 12 is going to help his march to the Heisman. Pumphrey’s numbers have been eye popping. The senior running back is leading the nation in rushing and the team to a 3-0 start thanks to his ridiculous 8.2 yards per carry average.
On the season, he has 599 yards and seven touchdowns. This follows up last year where he rushed for 1,653 yards and 17 touchdowns. He had an even better season as a sophomore when he ran for 1,867 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’s never averaged less than 5.4 yards per carry in his Aztec career.
Tommy, by contrast, has some very good numbers but they don’t really stand up to others. The Nebraska football quarterback is currently 41st in the country in passing yards with 931 yards. While he is a legit threat on the ground, with 281 yards rushing.
Those numbers from Tommy Armstrong are very good. The Nebraska football player isn’t putting up Heisman type numbers just yet.
