Texas QB Jerrod Heard diagnosed with shoulder sprain
Texas Longhorns fans can rest a bit easier.
The school announced Thursday that sophomore QB Jerrod Heard is battling a minor sprain in his throwing shoulder. He was injured in practice Tuesday.
Heard is competing with senior Tyrone Swoopes and freshman Shane Buechele for the starting job, so the injury still could prove costly this spring.
In 12 games last season, Heard threw for for 1,214 yards, five TDs and five interceptions. He also rushed for 561 yards and three TDs, averaging 4.0 yards per carry.
