Texas Longhorns hire Tom Herman as their new head coach
Texas officially hired Houston’s Tom Herman as its next head coach on Saturday afternoon, hours after reports of the move first broke.
Herman will replace Charlie Strong, who was fired Saturday morning after three seasons as the Longhorns’ head coach.
Herman had also been linked to the LSU coaching vacancy, but the Tigers also made news Saturday morning when it was reported that interim coach Ed Orgeron will be hired on a full-time basis.
In two seasons at Houston, Herman was 22-4, including a Peach Bowl win over Florida State that capped a 13-1 season in 2015. The Cougars are 9-3 this season after a 48-44 loss to Memphis in their regular-season finale on Friday.
