Texas Football: Tom Herman Comments on Toneil Carter Committing

Texas football coach Tom Herman seems thrilled with Toneil Carter’s decision to join the school in 2017.

On Monday, running back recruit Toneil Carter de-committed from Georgia. Hours later, he announced his intention of attending the University of Texas, beginning with the 2017 college football season, new head coach Tom Herman’s first. This came after Bulldog running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel decided to return to school next season, waiting on the NFL Draft, for now. Carter is considered the No. 7 tailback in this recruiting class and the No. 21 player from the state of Texas, according to 247Sports.

Carter is Herman’s second commitment since being hired in November. The first had been JUCO kicker Joshua Rowland, so the Houston native became the first high school athlete to join the Longhorns under Herman.

After the news became official, the former Houston coach would take to Twitter to express his enthusiasm over bringing in Carter. He called his newest commit a “game changer,” and posted a GIF of how the offensive staff feels right now, which sounds like they’re thrilled:

That dancing might be a preview of what’s to come if Carter has a big role with Texas for the 2017 season. He’s set to join a backfield that’s losing Doak Walker award winner, D’Onta Foreman, who is off to the 2017 NFL Draft. Carter will work with quarterback Shane Buechele, who is coming off a promising freshman season.

Texas has been busy over the past week with making offers and getting players to commit. The school offered three committed players the chance to come to Austin, but none have been confirmed to have flipped their decisions yet. They may even stand a chance at getting Reese Leitao, who de-committed from Nebraska.

As the offseason continues, we should see Tom Herman be able to reel in more recruits to join him in his first year at Texas. Whoever commits next may be welcomed with even more dancing GIFs.
