Texas Football Recruiting: Toneil Carter Announces Commitment

Former Georgia commitment Toneil Carter is set to go to Texas for the 2017 college football season.

Texas has been getting active in the recruiting process over the past two weeks. This includes making offers to already committed athletes, signing a JUCO kicker, and potentially getting one player to flip his decision. However, the Longhorns may have just made their biggest splash under new head coach Tom Herman.

Running back Toneil Carter had originally been committed to the University of Georgia. However, after fellow tailbacks Nick Chubb and Sony Michel announced their intentions of returning to school, Carter decided to change his mind. He took to Twitter to say that he’s decommitting from the Bulldogs.

Well, just hours later, Carter announced that he would be going to the University of Texas for his football career. He said so in this statement below on Twitter:

This is Herman’s second commitment after getting Joshua Rowland to join the school last Wednesday. Carter will now join him and seven other commits for Texas’ 2017 season.

According to 247Sports.com, Carter is a four-star recruit, the No. 7 overall running back in the 2017 class, and the No. 21 player in the state of Texas. His National Composite is 137.

Back in April 2015, Carter had visited Houston, where Herman coached for two seasons. He then received an offer from Texas in just one month later when Charlie Strong was still the head man. This eventually led to the 5-foot-10, 197-pound running back taking an unofficial visit to Georgia in March of this year, before eventually committing in July. What’s interesting to note is that he had his official visit in Athens, GA just one month ago, but that was before the announcement of Chubb and Michel coming back for one more season.

Toneil Carter is now set to be a Longhorn for his college career. Are you looking forward to him wearing the burnt orange?
