Texas A&M Basketball: Aggies Win Again, Thump Denver at Home

The Texas A&M basketball team took care of business, dispatching Denver at home by a final score of 80-58, improving to 6-2 on the season.

JC. Hampton more than doubled his previous A&M career high in points, scoring 21 to lead the Aggies on Wednesday night. It was the Denver Pioneers that managed to take an early lead on a Joe Rosga three point jumper 7 minutes into the first half. The bucket made the score 10-9 in Denver’s favor. Then the Aggies kicked things into gear, outscoring Denver 25-13 over the next 13 minutes to take a 34-23 halftime lead. The catalyst of the Aggie run was freshman sensation Robert Williams who became the first Aggie player to block a shot in eight straight games since Bryan Davis in 2009-2010.

If there was a sore spot it was on the glass. Texas A&M had an obvious size advantage in this game, but the battle for rebounds was much closer than the Aggies would have wanted it to be. The Aggies were out-rebounded 39-31 in their last game against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. They also lost the rebounding battle in both of their losses against UCLA and USC.

It’s a bit it of a head-scratcher, truthfully. The combination of Williams and Tyler Davis is going to have to get better on the boards if this team wants to make a run in March. Billy Kennedy expressed his frustrations with the rebounding after Monday’s game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi saying the team needed to get better defensively.

Coming Up Next

Texas A&M will have a few days to regroup before a Saturday night game against South Carolina State at Reed Arena. They’ll play Arizona in Houston next week before returning to College Station for one final tune up game against SFA. Conference play kicks off on December 29th as the Tennessee Volunteers come to Aggieland for a 8 PM CST tip off.
