TCU loses another defensive starter to injury in 1st half against SMU

TCU starting cornerback Ranthony Texada suffered a knee injury in the first half of Saturday's game against SMU and is feared to be lost for the season, coach Gary Patterson told TCU radio network at halftime.

The No. 3 Horned Frogs have been devastated by injuries to the defensive, which now has more players unable to play than are healthy. Texada is the sixth defensive starter sidelined (one player, freshman starting linebacker Mike Freeze, took an indefinite leave of absence after the season-opener and is not unexpected to return). Texada was one of the few experienced players in TCU's defensive backfield.

Patterson has been mixing and matching on defense, using two converted safeties to start at linebacker, where that position's lone veteran, Sammy Douglas, was lost in the season-opener at Minnesota. At safety, Patterson was relying on a walk-on sophomore to secure a key role.
