Stoops and his brothers return to their roots for a little boccie ball

There's no place like home. There's no place like home.

That was the sentiment relayed by Oklahoma Sooners coach Bob Stoops, who along with brothers Ron, Mike and Mark returned over the weekend to their roots of Youngstown, Ohio, for the 13th Ron Stoops Sr. and Anthony Pelini Memorial Foundation Boccie Social. The annual event benefits scholarships for Cardinal Mooney High School, Bob Stoops' alma mater.

The Stoops brothers are famous around here. Ron, Bob's older brother, is an assistant at Youngstown State. Younger brother Mike is Bob's defensive coordinator, and younger brother Mark is the head coach at Kentucky.

“I absolutely love it,” Bob Stoops told The Vindicator of Youngstown. “There’s nothing like being at home and where you grew up and with all of your true friends who you’ve had forever. It’s fun to be able to support a cause like this and more than anything able to see family and friends.”

There's a few other pretty well-known coaches from Youngstown and who attend the event annually. Bo Pelini returned to his hometown to coach Youngstown State following his stint at Nebraska. Youngstown State's president is former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel.

"More than anything, we’re all great friends,” Stoops said. “The Pelinis, us, Coach Tressel and on and on and on; everyone that’s here. We’ve had long relationships and family relationships and we’ve got great respect for it so this is always a great weekend to be back for.”

There was no word if Bob Stoops, knee-deep in a quarterback derby back in Oklahoma, talked to friend, Youngstown native and first-year Ohio State quarterbacks coach Tim Beck, if any of his three quarterbacks might be made available for the 2015 season.
