Stinson totals 3 TDs, ETSU outlasts Cumberland 23-16

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) Jajuan Stinson rushed for 114 yards and two scores, caught a touchdown pass, and East Tennessee State held on for a 23-16 win over NAIA Cumberland on Saturday.

Cumberland used an 11-play, 94-yard opening possession to take the lead, capped with the first of two Justin Snyder 1-yard rushing TDs. Stinson's first TD tied it at 7 with 5:55 left in the first quarter.

Another long drive from the Phoenix - 17 plays, 84 yards - again finished by Snyder made it 14-7. But quarterback Austin Herink moved the Bucs (4-6) down the field in five plays, and Stinson's 26-yard TD scamper tied it again at 14 midway through the second quarter.

Stinson capped ETSU's next drive with a 29-yard scoring reception, but the PAT was blocked and returned for two points.

JJ Jerman's 26-yard field goal as time expired made it 23-16 at the break, and neither team scored in the second half.

Snyder passed for 226 yards and ran for 53 for Cumberland (5-6).
