Stanford's No. 3 ranking in final AP poll is historic

Stanford's No. 3 ranking in the final AP Poll isn't just great news for the Pac-12 and the Cardinal, it's also a historic mark for the program.

The No. 3 ranking is the highest the Cardinal has finished since the poll has been conducted post-bowls (1968). It is also the second-highest ranking in program history. The 10-0 team in 1940 finished the season ranked No. 2 in the country.

Stanford went 12-2 this season, winning the Pac-12 crown for the third time in four years and destroyed Iowa in the Rose Bowl 45-16. The Rose Bowl win was the program's second in four years.
