Sprinkle Named to Midseason Mackey Award List

Arkansas Razorback senior tight end, Jeremy Sprinkle, has been named to the Mackey Award list, which is given to the best tight end in the country.

For the second year in a row, the Hogs have a tight end getting a lot of attention. Sprinkle had some big shoes to fill after Mackey Award winner Hunter Henry left and he is more than exceeding expectations.

Sprinkle has been outstanding this season. Last week he surpassed another Mackey winner, D.J. Williams, for touchdown receptions by a tight end at Arkansas with his 11th TD. Sprinkle was already named to media and coaches preseason All-SEC list.

Thus far this season, Sprinkle has brought in a touchdown pass in four of his last six games. For the year, he has 18 passes for 194 yards. Last season, he led the SEC tight ends with 27 catches for 389 yards, tieing him for ninth within all FBS tight ends. His ability to perform in clutch situations is pretty remarkable as well. Out of his 56 total receptions, 38 of them have resulted in either a first down or a touchdown. That puts his conversion rate at 67.9 percent.

If Sprinkle wins, he will be the third Hog to bring home the award. D.J. Williams won in 2010 and Hunter Henry last season. Both of which played in  the NFL while Henry is still the San Diego Chargers, so you can expect to see Sprinkle on Sundays after this season.

The John Mackey Award winner is selected by the vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The winner will be announced December 7th and then a live presentation December 8th at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. Congratulations to Jeremy and Woo Pig!
