South Carolina picks up massive 2016 DT commitment

Will Muschamp has been extremely active on the recruiting trails -- and it's paying off in a big way.

2016 defensive tackle prospect Kobe Smith committed to the Gamecocks on Wednesday. Via a report from Greenville Online, Smith will sign his scholarship papers and enroll at the university on Friday.

The Lawrenceville, Ga. native has had a roller-coaster ride of a recruiting process. He previously was committed to North Carolina State -- before switching that pledge to Kentucky. Then, interest from the new South Carolina staff forced Smith to yet again reconsider his options.

At 6'4", 305 pounds, he's a mountain of a man. Unsurprisingly, Smith's strengths as a player includes stuffing the run with his considerable frame.

As South Carolina continues in its rebuilding process, it'll need to get bigger and better up front on both sides of the ball. Landing Smith is certainly a step in the right direction.
