Source: USF to hire Michigan assistant T.J. Weist as WR coach

T.J. Weist, a former offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky and UConn, will be the new wide receivers coach at USF, a source told FOX Sports Wednesday morning.

The 50-year-old Weist, a former wideout at Alabama, spent the past season as a senior offensive assistant at Michigan. He coached with USF head man Willie Taggart when they won the 1-AA national title at WKU in 2002.

Weist has mentored 19 NFL wide receivers during his collegiate coaching career and coached Desmond Howard during the 1991 season on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy. He was elevated to interim head football coach at UConn four games into the 2013 season.
