Source: Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen transferring to Houston

Former Texas A&M QB Kyle Allen will transfer to Houston, a source told FOX Sports Tuesday morning. The talented sophomore threw for 2,210 yards this season to go with 17 TDs and just seven interceptions, while completing 57 percent of his passes.

The Arizona native, considered by many as the nation's top QB recruit two years ago, will sit out the 2016 season and become eligible again in 2017, where he's expected to replace UH starter Greg Ward, who will be a senior next fall.

The news of Allen’s arrival at UH should give Cougar fans many reasons to smile. Among them: It provides (along with a new $3 million contract) for Tom Herman more reasons to stick around, since it’s a stretch to think the Cougars head coach could go anywhere in 2017 and inherit a more talented QB than Allen.

Houston went 13-1 and beat Florida State in the Peach Bowl in Herman's first season with the Cougars.

The Houston Chronicle was the first to report the Allen transfer.
