Smith throws 3 TDs in 38-20 Gardner-Webb win

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — Jordan Smith threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score and Gardner-Webb scored on its opening three drives to beat Presbyterian 38-20 on Saturday.

Smith hit Kyle Horton on passes of 74 and 10 yards and the Runnin' Bulldogs (3-6, 1-1 Big South Conference) led 21-0 after he connected with Izaiah Gathings for an 8-yard score.

Gardner-Webb held the Blue Hose to 47 first-half yards rushing and finished with 479 total yards to Presbyterian's 350.

The Blue Hose rallied in the fourth quarter, with Jordan Morgan hitting Wesley Potter and DaShawn Davis with TD passes on consecutive drives.

Smith was 14 of 26 for 251 yards passing with an interception and scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter before Tre' Jackson's 19-yard field goal. Jayln Cagle scored on a 1-yard run and finished with 105 yards on 14 carries.

Morgan was 8 of 16 for 123 yards passing and scored on a 9-yard scamper for the Blue Hose (2-6, 0-4).
