Shane Beamer: Edmunds is better than he ever was
Virginia Tech running back Trey Edmunds has had his fair share of injuries over the years, but it appears the Hokies running back is sprinting down the road to recovery.
In 2013, Edmunds suffered a broken tibia during the regular season finale against Virginia. Last year, Edmunds sustained a broken clavicle against North Carolina.
The combination limited the 6-2, 224-pound running back to 21 rushing attempts in seven games.
It’s been a tough journey for Edmunds, but Virginia Tech running back coach Shane Beamer said that the redshirt junior looks better than ever.
"I think Trey is better than Trey ever was right now,” Beamer told the Virginia Pilot.
Beamer continued.
“People ask me, is Trey back to the Trey of old?" Beamer said. "To me, Trey is there and he’s way beyond that. Now granted, we’re in four days, so temper those expectations, but I think he looks better than he ever has the last four days. ... He had a great summer, like I said. He’s stronger. He’s muscled up. He’s got a better feel for the running back position. I really, really like what he’s done these last few days or practice.
“And showed a lot about himself last year, the toughness that he showed in games, getting a key third-down play against North Carolina when he’s already broken his collarbone and stuff like that. You like what he’s about and pray that he can stay healthy, because I think he can have a very, very special year."
