Seminoles break draft record

Florida State was able to get a win over arch-rival Miami and set an NFL draft record in the process. The Seminoles witnessed 11 players get selected in the 2015 draft, giving FSU a total of 29 players picked by NFL teams over the past three years, breaking the Hurricanes’ record for most players drafted in a three-year span (28), which was shared with USC (2008-2010).

FSU got off to a good start, as quarterback Jameis Winston was taken No. 1 overall by the Tampa Buccaneers and was followed by center Cameron Erving (No. 19 Cleveland).

Day 2 of the NFL draft belonged to the defense, as three former Seminoles defenders were taken in the second round and one was selected in the third.

The Oakland Raiders selected defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. with the No. 35 overall pick, defensive tackle Eddie Goldman went to Chicago via pick No. 39, cornerback Ronald Darby was taken with pick No. 52 by the Buffalo Bills and corner P.J. Williams packed his bags for New Orleans when the Saints chose him the 78th overall pick in the third round.

On the third day of the draft, offensive lineman Tre’ Jackson was selected by New England in the fourth round (No. 111), standout wide receiver Rashad Greene was scooped up by Jacksonville in the fifth round (139) and RB Karlos Williams was chosen by Buffalo (155).

Tight end Nick O’Leary, the 2014 Mackey award winner, will be reunited with Williams and Darby, as the Bills took him in the sixth round (194).

Bobby Hart was the final Florida State player taken in the 2015 draft when the New York Giants chose him in the seventh round (226).
