SEC unveils 'Beyond the Field', each school to be represented at Media Days

The SEC recently announced plans to add to the nation's most anticipated college football preseason media event with a new program. Each school will contribute one player with a compelling story outside of his football life to share his experiences at SEC Media Days. The program will be known as "Beyond The Field: Stories of the SEC."

The new SEC commissioner Greg Sankey released a statement detailing the league's latest initiative: "The athletic achievements of the SEC continue to be well-documented, but many of our student-athletes lead interesting lives or have intriguing stories that happen away from the field of play," said Sankey. "This is an opportunity to tell stories of academic achievement, personal ambition, community service, determination in the face of adversity and character of mind. These student-athletes are the chapters of a larger book that is the story of the Southeastern Conference."

The representatives from each school include:

Alabama - Reggie Ragland (Senior, Linebacker)

Arkansas - Jonathan Williams (Senior, Running Back)

Auburn - Jeremy Johnson (Junior, Quarterback)

Florida - Jonathan Bullard (Senior, Defensive Line)

Georgia - Malcolm Mitchell (Senior, Wide Receiver)

Kentucky - Melvin Lewis (Senior, Defensive Tackle)

LSU - Leonard Fournette (Sophomore, Running Back)

Ole Miss - Evan Engram (Junior, Tight End)

Mississippi State - Dak Prescott (Senior, Quarterback)

Missouri - Kenya Dennis (Senior, Cornerback)

South Carolina - Elliott Fry (Junior, Placekicker)

Tennessee - Joshua Dobbs (Junior, Quarterback)

Texas A&M - Mike Matthews (Senior, Center)

Vanderbilt - Ralph Webb (Sophomore, Running Back)

It should be interesting to see how the league decides to document the their Media Days event with this new program. If the new expose is a hit, and to be honest most efforts by the SEC have been in recent memory, we can expect this to be the beginning of an offseason tradition that only adds to the league's offseason media event.
