Sam B. Richardson set for big year in second season with Mark Mangino

It's early, as a college football fan, and it's easy to overreact to Week 1 results.

But if the season opener is any indication for Iowa State, senior QB Sam B. Richardson figured to have his last season be his best as a Cyclone.

Richardson completed more than 70 percent of his passes in Iowa State's 31-7 opening victory. Perhaps more impressive is that he averaged over eight yards per attempt.

“I thought that he showed the poise of a fifth-year senior quarterback,” coach Paul Rhoads said. “He’ll continue to show that and be a positive leader for this football team.”

ESPN has more on why Richardson could have a breakout campaign in 2015.
