Rutgers announces starting QB, several suspensions

Rutgers football has a starting quarterback for its season-opener, but the choice might have been by default.

Head coach Kyle Flood announced Tuesday the first snaps of 2015 will go to Hayden Rettig, a transfer from LSU.

Whether or not he outright won the job is unclear as his top competitor, Chris Laviano, is one of five players suspended for the first half of the first game of the season because of a curfew violation.

Joining Laviano, a sophomore, on the sidelines will be Leonte Carroo, Tim Gleeson, Eric Margolis and Ruthann Peele.

Carroo is a senior and the team's best receiver. Gleeson is a senior punter, Margolis is a redshirt freshman linebacker and Peele is a junior defensive back.

The Scarlet Knights open the season at home against Norfolk State on Sept. 5.
