RG3 statue, boats on water at Baylor's new stadium
WACO, Texas (AP) Robert Griffin III will always have a special place in Baylor football lore.
The school's only Heisman Trophy winner now has a permanent place in bronze at the Bears' new stadium.
A 9 1/2-foot bronze statue of Griffin was unveiled Sunday before the Bears played SMU in their first game at McLane Stadium. The statue is in a plaza between the stadium and the Brazos River, where some fans arrived by boat for the game.
Griffin says he never dreamed of having a statue honoring his name. The Washington Redskins quarterback won the Heisman Trophy in 2011, the same year the Bears won 10 games for the first time since their outright 1980 Southwest Conference title.
The Bears are now playing on the Waco campus for the first time since 1935.
