Report: Virginia Tech to hire Justin Fuente as head coach

Memphis coach Justin Fuente is set to be Frank Beamer’s successor at Virginia Tech, according to a report by Sports Illustrated on Saturday.

The report was confirmed by FOX 5 News DC's Brody Logan, who also stated that defensive coordinator Bud Foster will remain on staff.

Earlier this month Beamer, the Hokies’ 29-year head coach, announced his retirement at the end of the season, and it appears the Hokies have found their next coach.

Fuente was hired by Memphis in 2012 and has led the Tigers to new heights. In 2014, Memphis clinched a share of the AAC championship. This year, Memphis was ranked No. 13 in the first College Football Playoff poll.

Beamer coached 29 years at Virginia Tech and is the winningest active coach in the FBS.
