Report: Top draft prospect with big insurance policy tears ACL

Texas A&M offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, a possible first-round pick who made headlines last summer after the school spent more than $50,000 to convince him to return for his senior season, reportedly has a torn ACL which will require surgery and puts his short-term future into peril.

According to multiple reports, Ogbuehi suffered the injury in the Aggies' 45-37 Liberty Bowl victory over West Virginia on Dec. 29. ESPN reported the lineman will undergo surgery Friday and miss the Senior Bowl on Jan. 24.

In July, FOX Sports College Football Insider Bruce Feldman reported on the efforts put forth by Texas A&M and head coach Kevin Sumlin to convince Ogbuehi, already a three-year starter, to return for the 2014 season. According to Feldman, Texas A&M took out an insurance policy on Ogbuehi which could cost the school as much as $60,000. According to Feldman, a similar policy will net former USC receiver Marqise Lee something in the neighborhood of $5 million based on potential money lost when a leg injury in college led to his falling out of the first round.

Lee was selected in the second round (39th overall) by the Jaguars in the 2014 NFL Draft.

According to ESPN, it is not yet known whether the knee injury will force Ogbuehi to miss the 2015 season.
