Report: Texas, Patterson expected to settle for $2.8 million

University of Texas regents are expected to approve a contract settlement totaling $2.8 million on Thursday for former athletic director Steve Patterson, who was forced out last week after 22 months on the job.

According to Chip Brown of Horns Digest, the total is roughly half of what Patterson was owed on the remainder of his six-year guaranteed contract, a source told Brown.

Texas brought in Houston lawyer and former Longhorns linebacker Mike Perrin to serve as interim athletic director until a full-time replacement is hired.

Patterson resigned last week under heavy pressure internally and externally. His abrasive management style had come under criticism early in his tenure, and his relationship with many of Texas' coaches had turned toxic.
