Report: TCU co-OC pulls name out of UNT contention
The silly season is already in high gear and we've just reached championship week.
With double-digit coaching openings, the rumor carousel is spinning and and confusion is rising. That's the case with the vacancy at North Texas where TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and North Carolina offensive coordinator Seth Littrell are finalists.
There have been conflicting reports as to which one will take over as North Texas' head coach. On Tuesday, Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel appears to have ended the confusion. He reports that Meacham has removed his name from contention.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Monday reported that sources close to TCU believed Meacham was the man. On Tuesday, it cites sources familiar with North Texas that Littrell will be the choice, and that an announcement is being delayed until after the Tar Heels play in Saturday's ACC championship game against No. 1 Clemson.
TCU's other co-offensive coordinator, Sonny Cumbie, is reportedly a target of Texas coach Charlie Strong, who is expected to be seeking a new offensive coordinator when the Longhorns' season ends.
