Report: Shaq Davidson announces he will transfer from South Carolina

Via a report from The State, sophomore receiver Shaq Davidson will transfer from the South Carolina football program.

Rated a 4-star recruit by both ESPN and 247Sports, the Gaffney native initially chose the Gamecocks over the likes of Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, Clemson, and Notre Dame. The 2014 prospect was considered one of the state's best players for his age group.

After redshirting his freshman year, he tore an ACL last year during a practice period. Not only did Davidson not record a statistic during his time in Columbia, but he never saw the field.

For a player of his talent level, it was a big disappointment for South Carolina that he was unable to make his mark. It was thought Davidson could step in and help to make up for the production lost by departing players Pharoh Cooper and Jerell Adams. As such, Davidson will head elsewhere for some playing time.

Not all is lost for the Gamecocks within its receiver corps. Will Muschamp and his staff signed a very talented crop of pass-catchers -- led by Korey Banks, Randrecous Davis, and Bryan Edwards.
