Report: OSU's Hazell to Kent State

Ohio State assistant Darrell Hazell is set to be announced as Kent State's new football coach on Monday, ESPN reported Sunday, citing sources.

Hazell will replace Doug Martin, who stood down after seven years with Kent State last month. Martin had a 29-53 overall record with the team, and went 5-7 this year.

Hazell, a native of New Jersey, has had stints at schools including Rutgers, West Virginia, the US Military Academy and Western Michigan in his 23 years in coaching.

Since 2005, the former Muskingum College standout player has served as Ohio State assistant coach.

According to the report, Kent State interviewed 12 candidates for the post, including Alabama wide receivers coach Curt Cignetti, Texas wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy and Kent State defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis.
