Report: Orgeron 'highly interested in getting' Syracuse job
The coaching carousel at the end of every college football season churns at a considerably high rate. Turnover and firings lead to rampant rumors of epic proportions, and the constant speculation is something that virtually is perpetuated to no end.
With the ousting of Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer after the conclusion of the regular season, the job will be available.
When asked about the opening, current LSU defensive line coach Ed Orgeron didn't hesitate in voicing his thoughts on the position.
"I have a lot of respect for Syracuse," said Orgeron. "Great private school, great education, great tradition. So obviously, my interest would be very high. I'd be highly interested in getting that job."
Orgeron has been a longtime coach on the collegiate level, with some experience as a head coach. He led the Ole Miss program for three seasons, and was the interim head coach at USC once Lane Kiffin was jettisoned.
Additionally, Orgeron coached at Syracuse for three years in the 1990's under Paul Pasqualoni. Known for his his dogged energy on the recruiting trails, and his terrific development of defensive personnel, Orgeron may be the fresh of breath air this dilapidated program needs.
"I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to go back there," said Orgeron.
