Report: Oregon WR Devon Allen to miss rest of season with torn ACL

Oregon Ducks wide receiver Devon Allen has reportedly suffered his second season-ending non-contact injury after going down in Saturday’s game against Nebraska.

One of the best feel-good stories in college football this season has been Oregon Ducks wide receiver Devon Allen. The junior receiver had competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and was hoping for another breakout season with the Ducks after a strong freshman performance.

Unfortunately, it looks like Allen’s season is over. On Saturday against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Allen went down with a non-contact injury, immediately grabbing his knee. According to Matt Prehm from Duck Territory, Allen suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2016 season.

This is the second torn ACL for Allen, who went down on the opening play of the 2015 Rose Bowl. For those who missed the injury on Saturday, you can watch it in the GIF below from Bleacher Report’s Stephen Nelson.

Allen had competed in the 110 meter hurdles at this year’s Summer Olympics, finishing in fifth place before rejoining the Ducks football team. He looked poised to be a major contributor for Oregon this season after a strong Week 2 performance, catching four passes for 141 yards and a touchdown.

The highlight of the night for Allen came on this 77-yard score against Virginia. He even celebrated the touchdown by pretending to run hurdles.

No one wants to see a college player go down, and this injury is particularly difficult to hear about considering how hard Allen has worked to come back from a previously torn ACL. Hopefully he can continue his track and field career once he rehabs from his ACL.
