Report: Oregon State takes a stand on transfers, will ask Pac-12 to follow its lead

Oregon State will announce a strong new policy aimed at transfer students with troubling conduct issues on Monday, according to a report by The Oregonian.

The change would apply to all undergraduate and graduate students seeking to transfer to the university, including student athletes.

The policy requires that students seeking to transfer to Oregon State must disclose whether they are ineligible to re-enroll at a previous institution based on conduct reasons. If that student was ineligible to re-enroll due to conduct issues, they would automatically be declined admission to Oregon State.

"We are committed to combatting sexual violence in society and to improving safety on the Oregon State University campus," said OSU President Ed Ray, per The Oregonian's report. "This is an important step to strengthen the university's admissions policies for transfer students related to conduct that is not consistent with creating a safe and inclusive community at Oregon State."

Dr. Ray is asking the Pac-12 and commissioner Larry Scott to consider adopting a similar policy for the conference and will speak with each of the presidents at Pac-12 schools about the new policy.
