Report: No. 1 QB in the class of 2017 commits to Clemson

One day after Clemson signed one of the best defensive players in the country, five-star class of 2016 DT Dexter Lawrence, the Tigers may have struck gold again on the offensive side of the ball.

According to 247Sports, Hunter Johnson, the top-rated quarterback in the class of 2017, has de-committed from Tennessee and pledged his aligiance to Clemson.

Brownsburg (Ind.) High five-star 2017 quarterback Hunter Johnson has decommitted from Tennessee and has given his pledge to Clemson, his family tells 247Sports.

247Sports ranks Johnson as the No. 1 quarterback in the country in his class and the No. 11 player overall.

Johnson visited the Tigers campus on Friday.

"Myself and my family both just felt like it was the right spot for me," Johnson said. "I felt like I had a connection there when I went there. It wasn't something I was seeking out. I felt confident with my earlier decision of Tennessee at the time, but once I got there it felt right to me."

He is commit No. 3 in the junior class for Dabo Swinney and his staff.

The top-ranked Tigers (13-0) will be back in action on Dec. 31 when they face No. 4 Oklahoma in a College Football Playoff semifinal matchup in the Orange Bowl.
