Report: New Georgia assistants extremely well compensated
In assembling Kirby Smart's first staff at Georgia, the school clearly wasn't messing around. As details begin to emerge regarding the figures it took to pry offensive coordinator Jim Chaney from Pitt and offensive line coach Sam Pittman from Arkansas, UGA was willing to surround their new head coach with the best assistants they could possibly afford.
According to the Macon Telegraph, Chaney will be paid $850,000 a season for three years while Pittman will make $650,000 a season for the same three-year period. The offensive line coach will also be given a one-time payment of $250,000 at the end of this month, in essentially a signing bonus payment.
Both coaches are also eligible to receive raises based upon the success of the team during their time in Athens.
Georgia also gave two defensive assistants already on the staff new deals. Defensive line coach Tracy Rocker will now make $525,000, while outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer will be paid $375,000 for the next two seasons.
With a staff now in place after opening up the wallet, it's time for the Dawgs to start overachieving in the fall for a change.
