Report: Kirby Smart 'very interested' in Virginia Tech job

Could Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart finally leave Nick Saban's staff for a head coaching job of his own? According to a USA Today writer, the Virginia Tech job may be too good for Smart to pass:

Named Alabama's defensive coordinator in 2008, Smart has turned down a number of prominent  assistant coaching opportunities over the years and has said to be only interested in leaving Tuscaloosa for a head coaching position. 

Smart has twice been honored as a National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009 (Frank Broyles Award winner) as well as in 2012 (AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year). 

Smart will earn over $1.2 million dollars this season to coach the Tide's defense, a figure the Hokies would likely double judging by the $2.5 million dollar salary the school is paying Frank Beamer according to USA Today.
