Report: Florida State the favorite to land Everett Golson

By Glenn McGraw

Everett Golson could soon be suiting up for the Florida State Seminoles.

On Monday afternoon, Ryan Bartow of Noles247 reported that FSU is the “frontrunner” to land the former Notre Dame quarterback. A source reportedly told Bartow that “barring a last-minute change of heart or any influence from elsewhere, [Florida State’s] where he’s headed.”

There has already been plenty of speculation and rumors circulating in regards to Golson’s transfer. As of now, what we know for certain is that Notre Dame has limited the schools Golson is allowed to transfer to. The Irish have prohibited his release to any of their 2015 opponents, as well as "some Big Ten programs." That decision by the school scratched Texas off the list, as the Irish open against the Longhorns next season. However, FSU is still in play.

Early on, it was believed that Golson would likely head to the Southeastern Conference. However, the SEC has bylaws in place that would require a school to receive a waiver for Golson. The conference’s two-year eligibility rule and Golson’s academic misconduct while at Notre Dame are two issues that could be standing in the way.

For now, FSU appears to be a likely destination.
