Report: Devin Lucien transferring to Arizona State

Just a few weeks ago, Devin Lucien was seen at Arizona State's spring practices. The Sun Devils are in need of wide receivers, which made absolute sense for Lucien to check out ASU.

What started as speculation that he would land there has become official. Well, almost.

Doug Haller over at the Arizona Republic reports that Lucien will transfer to Arizona State as a graduate student and will be granted immediate eligibility. But before it's  official, Haller points out, two things have to happen:

"Lucien has to graduate in June (he is on pace to do so) and UCLA has to approve the transfer (it is expected to do so.)," Haller writes.

It's unclear why Lucien decided to leave Westwood. The 6-foot-1 receiver is originally from Southern California, and his close relationship to his mother was a factor in staying close to home. But in three seasons with the Bruins, Lucien never emerged as Brett Hundley's go-to receiver. Jordan Payton led the charge on that front. An opportunity to climb the depth chart exists at Arizona State, where Mike Bercovici needs athletic and speedy receivers, skills that Lucien clearly possesses.

Haller also points out that Bercovici and Lucien are good friends, which further explains why Lucien chose to make Tempe his next destination.
