Report: Clemson's top corner battling hamstring injury

Mackensie Alexander, Clemson’s top cornerback and main weapon against Alabama’s star receiver Calvin Ridley, is battling a hamstring injury and could be limited during tonight’s matchup with Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship, according to several reports.

Alexander, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound sophomore, was voted to the all-ACC first-team by the coaches and tallied 21 tackles this season. Sophomore cornerback Adrian Baker is listed behind Alexander on the depth chart.

The news of Alexander’s potential injury is not good for No. 1 Clemson (14-0), who still isn’t exactly sure what kind of production, if any, it will get from star defensive end Shaq Lawson.

Lawson, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, sustained a knee injury early in the Tigers’ 37-17 victory over No. 4 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.
