Recruiting story: Harris chose Mizzou without his father's permission
Defensive end Charles Harris and running back Russell Hansbrough were guests of the Mizzou Tiger Talk radio show on Monday night.
Each regaled the audience about their individual recruiting stories, and how they both ended up as Tigers in the first place.
Harris was an under-the-radar recruit in the Kansas City area. He didn't watch football growing up, and had no real understanding of the program's culture before committing.
Like Harris, the running back from Texas wasn't too familiar with the Missouri program.
According to Hansbrough, "Honestly, I didn't even know where Missouri was on the map." His mother also warned him of the cold weather in Columbia.
"I booked the flight and I remember my mom saying something about the weather," said Hansbrough. "I looked up the weather and it was cold. I [didn't] even think I [had] clothes thick enough for the weather. I brought my letterman's [jacket] and loved [Missouri]."
Head coach Gary Pinkel is sure glad both opted to sign with the Tigers. Harris currently is second on team in sacks (4.0) and has the look of a future all-conference performer.
Hansbrough has been one of the most productive running backs to ever play at Missouri. He's accrued over 2,000 yards on the ground during his career, including 1,084 yards and 10 touchdowns a season ago.
