Rapid Reaction: The Syracuse Orange vs the Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The game lived up to all the hype for the Syracuse Orange and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Week 5 was a high-flying scoring fest, but the Orange couldn’t keep up.
The Syracuse Orange and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish squared off in a heated battle at MetLife Stadium. While the Vegas odds makers set the over/under ridiculously high at 75 points, it lived up to the hype.
In the first quarter it was already 23-13 and most of that scoring happened in the first five minutes. The Orange looked poised and ready, but their defense continues to fall flat.
Again they let the air out of the stadium allowing the Irish’s first play from scrimmage to go for a score. While the team did bounce back, they never were able to take the lead.
Both defenses for that matter played terrible and allowed over 1,100 yards of offense. While the theme of the game was special teams, or the lack thereof.
The Orange have been battling these demons all season and it all came to ahead on Saturday. Outside of Brisly Estime’s huge punt return at the end of the first half, the unit lost the Orange the game.
They gave up 9 points directly (blocked extra point and a kickoff return for a touchdown). They also botched another extra point, thankfully this one didn’t get returned for points.
I can’t be the only one saying, we miss Riley Dixon. He’s our SU player to watch in the NFL this season.
Hell, Eric Dungey did the best job punting the football today for Syracuse. It was an entertaining game for offensive savants, but not so much for defensive fans.
Syracuse returns to action on the road to play the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Week 6. They came into this weekend undefeated, but they’re currently losing to NC State.
