Quarterback Johnny McCrary transferring from Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Quarterback Johnny McCrary is transferring from Vanderbilt after being replaced by Kyle Shurmur late in the season.

Vanderbilt athletic department spokesman Larry Leathers confirmed Thursday that McCrary plans to transfer.

McCrary started seven games for Vanderbilt this season before Shurmur took his spot. McCrary completed 54.7 percent of his passes for 1,533 yards and six touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Leathers said ''we expect Johnny to continue his work toward a Vanderbilt degree next semester.''

McCrary has two seasons of eligibility remaining. If he graduates from Vanderbilt in May, McCrary could play immediately at his new school.

The Tennessean first reported that McCrary was transferring. That report came after McCrary issued an Instagram post in which he quoted a book passage describing the difficulty of saying goodbye.
